Boca Raton FC will begin its NPSL Sunshine Conference season hosting Miami United FC in Delray Beach on Saturday at 6PM. These opponents are no stranger to each other, playing twice last year in the Sunshine Conference with Boca losing both games one to zero. United, who also placed a squad in the APSL last year, faced Boca twice with Boca winning both those games 2-1. The ties between the club go deep as Boca and United have also previously faced off in last years first round of the US Open Cup with United advancing to the second round.
Boca is arguably the fourth best club in the Sunshine Conference. With talent native to South America, the club is hoping to make some upsets happen against the conferences heavy hitters. Boca comes into the 2018 NPSL season with a 1-1-2 preseason record, notching a win versus Lynn University.
Miami United is heading into this game on top of the NPSL Sunshine Conference with three games played and five points. After a pair of draws in the #MagicCityClasico, United earned their first win of the season in a 3-0 victory over Naples on the back of a wonderful strike from Tomas Granitto. United will expect more of the same from their midfield as they hope to keep the pressure on the rest of the league by corralling another three points.
Working in Boca’s favor, United heads into the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup where they will face FC Kendall in the first round on May 9th at Ted Hendricks Stadium. Should United overlook their opponents, Boca may play a role in deciding the final table by stealing points at home from a powerful squad. Don’t expect that to happen as United have all their engines firing and look to secure their place atop the table.
