Fútbol Miami MLS stadium saga staggers on as group meets with Doral officials

The search for a Fútbol Miami MLS stadium continues, as the ownership group met with members of Doral city government to discuss a lot of land next to the Palmetto Expressway, according to the Miami Herald.

Doral mayor Juan Carlos “JC” Bermudez disclosed the meeting to the public at a City Council meeting Wednesday. According to the Herald, the meeting included members of the city’s administration, MLS deputy commissioner Mark Abbott, Fútbol Miami MLS partner Jose Mas and real estate developer David Martin, who owns the land in consideration.

The land houses a Pepsi distribution center immediately next to the Palmetto (7777 NW 41st St.). Companies controlled by developers Martin and Stephen Bittel purchased the 24-acre lot for $40 million in January. The lot is significantly larger than the 9-acre parcel the ownership group has been targeting for years.

This is one of at least three alternate locations Fútbol Miami MLS is considering outside of Overtown. The other sites include: Melreese golf course, Hialeah Park and a parcel next to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
